Oliver Sleeman, Head of Partnerships at Crowdfunder
Funders play a crucial role with the Crowd in the digital funding revolution.
Charlie had a great idea to make a documentary about the evacuation of Alderney in the Channel Islands during the Second World War to commemorate its 75th anniversary. It’s his second project, and this time he needed £10,000 to start filming.
With the help of our online support tools Charlie came up with a great project page, offering fantastic rewards in return for pledges of money. They included exclusive opportunities to join the film crew and attend the premiere, which went down a storm. Soon he'd got half-way to his target.
Our +Funder, The Film Crowd, were on the look out for a film project on Crowdfunder that had plenty of support. They wanted to pledge £5,000 of their own to the filmmaker with the highest number of supporters, and that was Charlie.
In the end, Charlie raised over £5,000 from 269 supporters over 35 unforgettable days and picked up the extra £5,000 from The Film Crowd, meaning he can now get the ball rolling. Now the real hard work starts.
