I have been chosen by my school Frances Bardsley Academy for Girls to go on an expedition to Uganda in 2017. I will be on the Exhibition for 18 days, while we are there we will be helping the New Era Nursery School and Lungujja Model Junior School. Both these schools are very under developed as they have very limited resources and facilities. Some of the activities i will be taking part in are helping develop the schools, which will incude building new areas, painting classrooms, fixing the facilities and even teaching the children, subjects such as maths and english. All of this work will be done by the team and I with help and advice from experts. Here in the UK we take school and the amazing facilites for granted and I believe that everyone no matter where they live should have the oportunity to go to school where they are able to learn in a safe environment.
The processes I had to go through to be chosen for this fantastic expedition included filling out an application form and writing a letter as to why I wanted to go on this expedition. I was then interviewed by the expedition team. I then found out that I was one of the 25 girls chosen to take part in this expedition which is a life changing oportunity for me. As part of the challenge I have to raise £3400 by myself as it adds to the experience of the trip, I have several ideas of fundraising events that I will plan to help me achieve that target.
I have attached a video that the students from the 2015 expedition made using their own photos and videos. When I am on this expedition I will be undergoing the same challenges and experiences they have shown in this video, this helps demonstrate how much hard work and effort is put into the trip and how it all pays off when you get to see how happy all the children are once they have recieved our help, its also an overwhelming feeling to know that we have helped to change their lives for the better.
