My name is Graham Matthews, I am a photographer with a BA (Hons) degree in Photography and Video Art.
In February 2017 I was invited to take part in a charity expedition to the Khristiya Seva Niketan Hospital , Sarenga, West Bengal, North India. The trip was organised by a small group from the Methodist Church in Dunstable, Bedfordshire.
The hospital is located in an area of extreme poverty and is the only lifeline for those needing urgent medical care. All the staff work long hours taking much lower wages than their 'private' funded colleagues working in the city. With limited funding the hospital relies on donations for much of its medical resources. Much of their specialist equipment is either broken or very old.
My intention is to stage an exhibition of the photographs and video taken on the 10 day trip to the hospital, to raise awareness and to kick start fund raising for 'Expedition India 2018' which will take place in February 2018. The Methodist Church have given me a room to stage the exhibition which will run from 9th September 2017 to 16th September 2017 and be open to the public. Whilst we've agreed the exhibition will be free to enter, we will be asking for donations.
For the exhibition to work the donated large room needs to have free standing, white painted boards along all the walls in order that the 25 - A2 sized images can all be displayed. The £500 raised will facilitate this and also go towards the printing and mounting costs.
All the photographs exhibited will be for sale with 25% of profits donated to the fund raising total.
