Project aim
We are hoping to raise money to donate to local orphanages and buy rugby kit for schools in Kabul, Afghanistan while we are out there.
About the project
We are an amateur rugby team that plays a few games a year to raise money for local charities in England. Earlier this year we were invited by Asad Ziar, CEO of the Afghanistan Rugby Federation, to come over to Kabul and play a local side to aid in their efforts to popularise rugby in the country and show its unifying charateristics. Never ones to say no to an adventure, we graciously accepted. Who could pass up the opportunity of being the first western team to EVER be invited to the country! And keeping with the charitable ethos of the club, decided to do more than just go out to play rugby.
Our goal is, while out there, to run some workshops in the local schools and orphanages to help show rugby as a means to promote harmony and peace. We also want to raise money for the orphanages to help them continue to run and purchase kit and equipment for the schools.
With your help, the money will go a long way for the children of Kabul who have been left with little to nothing after the recent turbulant war. We will be traveling out there just before the Rugby World Cup Final to run the workshops, donate the kit and money, and play a local side to show that through something as simple as a game of rugby, we can promote harmony and peace at the same time.
