You may be wondering why exercise bikes?
If you have been recently diagnosed with cancer or are undergoing treatment, it's important to take special care of yourself. Studies show that one of the best ways to do this is to stay physically active.
Moderate aerobic exercise, such as riding a stationary bicycle or taking a daily walk, coupled with the use of light weights for strength training, can enhance physical well-being and spur recovery.
These bikes will be placed in the air vent lockdown rooms for leukemia patients who need to be isolated and provided with a sterile living environment to prevent infection when patients are at their most vulnerable. There are 10 rooms at QA F6 ward, the aim is to provide a bike for every air vented room.
These bikes will all be in memory of Jack Bullen who received the best possible care whilst at Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth, but sadly lost his battle on Monday the 19th of December 2016.
