Ensemble Thing with Sounds of the Engine House (Manchester)

In March 2012 the Glasgow based contemporary music group Ensemble Thing @ensemblething performed a new composition by Manchester based composer Eve Harrison at the City Halls Glasgow as part of the Scottish Music Centre\'s Composer\'s Marathon. Following on from this positive experience Ensemble Thing would like to strengthen links with composers and new music making opportunities in Manchester. We have been invited to perform at the Bay Horse Pub http://www.thebayhorsepub.co.uk/ on the 9th of July in an event hosted by new music programming platform the Sounds of the Engine House http://soundsoftheenginehouse.com/ 741/blogger of which Eve Harrison is one of the co-directors. We hope that this can further promote links between the Glasgow and Manchester based new music scene but we need funding to get us there! Ensemble Thing is a non-funded new music band from Glasgow. Since 2005 we've been pioneers of the new wave of ensemble culture occurring in Scotland. We work in the cracks between other organisations playing the music we love, in locations we love, with the people we love. The group has been formed by talented young performers and composers who dedicate their free time to the promotion of new music and over the years this talent has developed so that we are now in the privileged position of working with some of Glasgow\'s finest up and coming musical talent. Ensemble Thing\'s opportunities have been developing over the years under the accomplished Artistic Directorship of composer John De Simone http://www.myspace.com/johndesimone. We have always taken an interest in cross arts collaborations and new music promotion. Recently we have been invited to perform at the Verona Risuona contemporary music festival, Italy; to perform at the New Music Scotland Conference, Aberdeen and we thoroughly enjoyed working with Fish and Game in recording John De Simone\'s music score for Alma Mater which went on to be performed in London, Australia, and Germany following a five star sell out show at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2011. In 2013 we will perform in The Hague and we will return to Verona to perform in their festival once more. Due to the developments over the last few years in Ensemble Thing\'s opportunities we are excited to have to start thinking on a larger scale with our projects and to be putting together applications for project and collaborative funding alongside our gig bookings. One thing that we would love to do would be to work more with artists and musicians in Manchester for future cross art collaborations and we think that this performance opportunity will be the thing to kick start that. We have put forward a pitch on crowdfunder to help us raise funds for travel expenses to Manchester this July to compliment other funding avenues that we have explored. Anything raised above and beyond this amount will be invested in returning to Manchester in future to explore further exciting opportunities. Thank you very much for reading and for taking an interest in supporting Ensemble Thing!
