Project aim

My 13 year old son has won a place at Derby manufacturing utc, we are trying to raise funds for his uniform and railcard.

About the project

My son is very talented in design and technology. He spends hours designing and making working models from knex, lego and broken electical items. Earlier this year he went through several interviews and was awarded a place at the brand new Derby Manufacturing UTC. He starts in September 2015. It is a 50 mile round trip so he will be catching the 7.30am train and not getting home until 7pm but despite this he is determined to attend. He is so happy and counting down the days until he can start. He will of course require a yearly railcard and a complete new uniform, shoes and sports kit. This in total will be around £400/£500. I am desperately trying to raise enough to cover the costs involved.

I had been saving up for this by seling things in local papers and ebay as well as putting a little aside each week from my wages. I am a self employed dog walker/ animal carer. I set my business up 8 years ago and it has steadily grown. Unfortunately in early April I had an accident whilst walking a cllients dog which resulted in me needing spinal surgery. This has meant I am unable to work whilst I slowly recover. I have been left with nerve pain in both legs and a dropped left foot. I am recieving physio and have a daily exercise programme. It will be a slow process and now means I have no income. I thought I would be covered by my business insurance but unfortunately it was only public liability insurance and I have not received a penny. I have also had to purchase a special rise and recline chair to enable me to get out of bed and sit with my family in the lounge. This means I have now lost all the money I had saved for my sons move to the new school. The last few months have been difficult and upsetting for the whole family. Our family income has been halved and we are struggling day to day but I am determined that this will not stop my youngest son from achieving his dream of working in engineering design.

Please, please help if you can. Each and every pound will help him to get there in September.

Many thanks!
