Cafodd Simon Thomas ei ethol i’r Cynulliad am y tro cyntaf yn etholiad 2011 fel aelod rhanbarthol ar gyfer y Canolbarth a’r Gorllewin. Fe lwyddodd i sicrhau lle ar dop y rhestr ar gyfer etholiad fis Mai ac mae hefyd yn sefyll yn etholaeth Gorllewin Caerfyrddin a De Penfro.

Roedd yn Aelod Seneddol dros Geredigion rhwng 2000 a 2005.

Yn ystod ei gyfnod yn San Steffan fe lefarodd dros ei blaid ar yr amgylchedd, byd a materion gwledig, trafnidiaeth, datblygu rhyngwladol, ynni, diwylliant, y wasg a chwaraeon.

Roedd hefyd yn aelod o’r Pwyllgor Ymchwilio Amgylcheddol gan ddod yn adnabyddus fel hyrwyddwr dros yr amgylchedd a datblygu cynaliadwy.

Roedd yn rheolwr datblygu ar gyfer Technium yn Sir Benfro, cyn cael ei benodi i rôl uwch-gynghorydd i lywodraeth Cymru’n Un, gan roi cyngor i’r Dirprwy Brif Weinidog a Gweinidogion eraill Plaid Cymru.

Mae’r aelod o’r Pwyllgor Plant, Pobl ifanc ac Addysg, ac wedi eistedd ar y Pwyllgor Cyllid a’r Pwyllgor Materion Cyfansoddiadol.Mae wedi bod yn aelod o’r Cabinet Cysgodol ers 2014. Fe sy’n gyfrifol am y portffolio addysg, sgiliau a’r iaith Gymraeg. Fe sydd hefyd yn llefaru dros y Blaid ar wasanaethau cyhoeddus a llywodraeth leol.

Cafodd ei addysg gynnar yn Ysgol Ramadeg y Bechgyn, Aberdâr cyn mynd ymlaen i Aberystwyth lle y gwnaeth hyfforddi’n wreiddiol fel llyfrgellydd.

ENGLISH VERSION:

Simon Thomas was first elected to the Assembly at the 2011 election as a regional member for Mid and West Wales. He topped the Mid and West list for May’s election and is candidate in Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire.

He was Plaid Cymru MP for Ceredigion from 2000 to 2005.

Whilst in Parliament, he spoke for the party on Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Transport, International Development, Energy, Culture Media and Sport.

He was also a member of the Environmental Audit Committee and became one of the longest serving members of that body, being recognised as a constant advocate for the environment and sustainable development.

He was a development manager for Technium in Pembrokeshire, before being appointed senior special advisor to the One Wales Government, advising the Deputy First Minister and other Plaid Cymru Ministers.

He is a member of the Children, Young People and Education Committee, and has served on the National Assembly’s Finance Committee; Constitutional and Legislative Affairs Committee.

He has been a member of Plaid Cymru’s strong Shadow Cabinet since 2014. Simon is Shadow Minister for Education, Skills and the Welsh language. Simon also speaks for the party on Public Services and Local Government.

He was educated at Aberdare Boys’ Grammar School; Aberystwyth University and intially trained as a librarian.
