Support Team Scotland in the Dance World Cup
Each year the Dance World Cup brings together teams from the UK, Europe, Africa, South-east Asia, Australia and the USA. In June this year the competition is being held in Jersey, with some 3000 dancers from 28 countries in attendance.
2016 is the first year in which Team Scotland will participate in the Dance World Cup and we are delighted that young dancers between 7 and 15 years old from the Performance Group of Edinburgh Dance Academy have been chosen to represent their country competing in a total of 45 performances.
Edinburgh Dance Academy (EDA) was established 20 years ago and now provides regular classes across Edinburgh and East Lothian in ballet, jazz, tap and hip-hop. EDA have been providing the juvenile dancers for the hugely successful Pantomime at Edinburgh’s King’s Theatre for the past 15 years. In November 2015 students from the Academy travelled to London to perform in the Dance Proms at the Royal Albert Hall. This was the second time the Academy was invited to perform after being selected to dance in the inaugural event, a huge honour for all the dancers. The EDA Performance Group travel all over the country to perform and compete and earlier this month they took 4 first places, a second place and two third places, as well as winning two first and one second place overall award at the National Final of That’s Showbiz at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool.
55 dancers from EDA will travel to St. Helier in Jersey to represent their country in solo, duet, trio, quartet and group dance events across several genres categories from 25th June to 2nd July. They will dance with their eye on gold and for the chance to dance again at the Winners’ Galas.
Representing Scotland on a World stage is undeniably a great honour and the children are over the moon and already working hard perfecting their technique and performance skills. However, the young dancers do not receive any automatic funding for the costs of this very special trip and the EDA PG Fundraising Group has been set up by parents to ensure that this incredible opportunity can be taken up by all of the talented young dancers from EDA who have qualified for the World Cup and that their participation is not wholly dependent on their parents being able to meet their competition and travel and accommodation costs.
The costs for each dancer will be as follows:
|Cost||Per Child||10 Children||46 Children|
|Entry Fees (Average)||£100||£1,000||£4,600|
|Uniform and Costumes||£100||£1,000||£4,600|
|Flights to and from Jersey||£250||£2,500||£11,500|
|Accomodation in Jersey||£500||£5,000||£23,000|
|Food and Travel in Jersey||£400||£4,000||£18,400|
This amounts to overall costs per dancer of almost £1350 to represent Team Scotland. All our young dancers will be accompanied by their parents who who will also be required to meet their own travel and hotel costs etc.
We would be extremely grateful if you would consider supporting Team Scotland. Any financial support you can give the dancers towards their costs would be fantastic. You will appreciate that to reach the stage where you are asked to represent your country you must not only have talent, but have worked very hard to learn and develop your skills. Your support would allow the young dancers to reap the benefits of their hard work and dedication and enjoy what may be a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
The parents of the EDA PG Fundraising group will co-ordinate all sponsorship activity and donations on behalf of the dancers and their families.
