WE WANT TO BUILD AN INDOOR SKATEPARK AND YOUTH WORK HUB IN DUNFERMLINE in the 'Velocity' Nightclub.
Heart and Sound is youth work, sports and media charity based in Dunfermline, fife,Scotland. SCO45572
Every week our youth workers hear parents and teachers telling kids not to drink, do drugs, sleep around, hang out on street corners, go wild etc....and they all respond with the same thing...
'GIVE US SOMETHING BETTER TO DO AND WE WILL DO IT'
Young People in Dunfermline are bored and lack affordable facilities...and we dont mean out door skate parks where it rains for most of the year. Dunfermline needs a 21st century youth work hub and indoor Skate park!
We want to offer them an 'ALTERNATIVE HIGH' that will create volunteering opportunities through marshalling the skate park, running the cafes, free recording studios, media suites and runninng massive youth events, creating a leadership culture amongst young people in Fife and also creating a local Indoor Skatepark for skate boarders, bladers and stunt scooters that will attract many young people from Dunfemrline and wider Fife who will no longer have to travel for hours to have fun in a safe evironment. We aim to do this by purchasing VELOCITY Nightclub on 45 Carnegie drive, Dunfemline.
We have already generated £10,000 which we have used to draw up plans of the building, design a skate park and also to quantity survey and cost up the building of this venture including a training cafe and media suite and recording studio.
We have moved our youth projects into part of the campus known as Sinkies and Jam Jars and we now need another £3000 to finalise the feasibilty study and act as seed towards the purchase of Velocity as a YOUTH WORK HUB and INDOOR SKATE PARK.
Please watch the video to get more of an idea of what we want to do with Velocity nightclub.
Any funds raised over the £3000 will go towards a match fund for purchasing the premises through a larger community grant scheme.
The story so far...
In May 2015 we shared our vision video for Buying the night club while carrying out the first stages of our feasibility study. Amazingly with no paid advertising 1000 people signed ouR petition within 7 days and over 50,000 people watched our facebook video on over 100,000 facebook walls within 7 days showing the massive interest. We have now funded the youth work and music elements, and carried out a large scale consultation including over 250 skaters at 10 local skate parks. We now just need to get planning permission, buy the building and get the designs off to major grant providers.
