DigiKick is a new community interest company with an ethos on helping people. We believe that the community can come together to help each other and we want to make that happen by running a series of projects.
Our first project (Tea and T'internet), aims to reduce social isolation within our older community. We are doing this by teaching people for free how to use the internet for social use (skype, facebook, email). We also have a strong emphasis on internet safety so make that a core ethos of our teaching.
Our second project will be to support young people into employment and help them make it permanent! We are going to do this by holding sessions on work skills and providing 1-1 support for people to talk through issues with their employment.
We plan to bring these projects together to provide our own work experience opportunities for young people. We will take young people to retirement homes where they will teach residents how to engage with the internet. This project will help to reduce isolation and loneliness in older people in the long and short term, as well as teaching young people that they have the skills and confidence to get a job.
We are looking for funding to help get these projects off the ground with a 6-month pilot. To run the pilot we need equipment a way to travel and a small salary to work full time. After our pilot we aim to apply to tradiational funding applications to make our projects permanent. Please help us help Birmingham!
