After winning an award from The Pebble Trust, this show achieved a sell-out house at the Brighton Fringe in May before transferring to Theatre Utopia in London. Help us get to the Edinburgh Fringe for the first time!
Thought-provoking but with a humorous tone, 'Did I Choose These Shoes?' is a spoken word and physical theatre show exploring what it means to be a girl growing up in today's superficial society and the choices on offer for young women. Through the exploration of different characters, Ella tells the story of how gender imbalances can effect us personally. Delving into topics such as objectification, dodgy periods (and why they are so stigmatised), body dysmorphia and the incessant need for self validation. Today, we still do not see more women fairly represented, as we continue to see one type of role model shrinking and warping what women think they are capable of. Did we truly choose the shoes we walk in? Or are we just following the paths that have been marketed to us?
"Your poetry really encouraged me to reflect on the role of women”
"A wonderful performance. Must see.”
"A truly talented writer and performer" - Devisenberg

Rhythm Theatre are a start-up company based in Brighton and Norwich. We combine poetry and physical theatre to give a platform to stories and experiences which are so often unrepresented in society. Our debut show, 'Did I Choose These Shoes?' is evolving over time and our Edinburgh show will include re-worked elements of physical theatre and poetry. Please help support a group of young writers, directors, actors, dancers and general theatre makers get to Edinburgh Fringe! This is such an exciting opportunity to get our work noticed and to give a platform to the female experience through art!
We will be performing on 4th-5th and 7-11th August in The Space @ Jury's Inn!
