As an independent councillor Derek is able to tackle the issues which matter to you on the Shotley peninsula and wider, without having to toe any particular party's line.
Derek is already an active district councillor dealing with a wide range of ward matters, helping to launch positive initiatives and serving on important Babergh committees. He cares passionately about the area he serves and its people.
By becoming a Suffolk County Councillor Derek hopes to become involved in an even geater range of issues , including Social Care provision, both domicillary and residential, Housing/homelessness, Rural and Community Transport issues, Highways, and Education, all of which would complement his district council duties.
One drawback of being an independent candidate though is Derek does not receive any financial backing from a political party and must raise his own funds in order to fight an election with the use of campaigning material.
The £1,200 will be used to get the message across that Derek wants to get things done for the residents of Brantham, Tattingstone, Stutton, Holbrook, Harkstead, Erwarton, Shotley, Chelmondiston, Woolverstone and Freston, which makes up the Peninsula Division in the Suffolk County Council elections on May 4, 2017.
