By taking our tenants to the Royal Bath & West show, we are helping combat social inclusion & helping to improve their health & well-being.
About the project
Ashley Community Housing is a non profit organisation based in Bristol & Birmingham, we aim to support the settlement and resettlement needs of refugees, vulnerable homeless and other displaced people, to develop their independence, promote their positive contribution to the community and ease their integration into the UK life
The Royal Bath and West show is one of the biggest agricultural shows in the country, it is full of a wide variety of food, drink, horticulture, agriculture and trade stands. We are always looking out for our tenant’s health and well-being, as well as helping them successfully integrate into British life. By taking them on a day trip to the show we would be introducing them to a staple of British life.
At Ashley Community Housing we have a lot of classroom based training courses, so by taking tenants to the show we are taking them out this environment and showing them some fun! It helps them integrate successfully into society by showing them real life activities rather than classroom based. It can also help hugely when trying to combat social inclusion which can happen with newly arrived communities, especially if they don’t know many people. Something small like this could mean a huge amount to them as it gives them something else to do and can go a long way to helping overcome any trauma they have experienced.
The prospect of getting our tenants out of the city and into the fresh air of the countryside is very appealing as well. Many of them stay within the city and don’t experience fresh country air
We are starting a Crowd Funder to help raise the funds to make all this possible as we will need to hire mini busses to take around 10 tenants with us, pay for their entry and pay for food and drink throughout the day.
We have taken tenants on trips before and you can tell it means a lot to them, please take a look at some pictures below of previous days out
