Dare to Dream is a life changing volunteering programme in South Africa for UK young people who have experienced homelessness
About the project
Saha provides accommodation and support for young people who have experienced homelessness. Saha Foyers take an advantaged thinking approach in which the focus is on the talent and potential of young people rather than the disadvantage they have experienced. Our mission is to 'Transform the Lives' of the young people. Dare to Dream is an chance to invest in a life changing opportunity for young people. This three month programme will culminate in a 10 day expedition to South Africa in partnership with Africa Wildtrails. The programme will challenge young people both physically and emotionaly. The itinerary will take the group of young people on an adventurous and educational tour of KwaZulu Natal where they will participate in hands on learning about conservation, the environment and the social/political history of South Africa. The young people will complete volunteer work at a wildlife rehabilitation centre and at the Enthembeni HIV care centre.
This once in a lifetime opportunity offers young people a chance to give something back and through giving to others develop an enhanced sense of self worth. The programme takes young people way out of thier comfort zone and engages them in activities and experiences they could never Dare to Dream that they could accomplish. Young people will develop resilience and aspiration and will share thier learning with those they encounter in the UK and South Africa.
Young people will be trained in photography and filmaking and will each make a documentary film of thier expereinces. The young people will become ongoing ammbassadors for the programme with a mission to encourage other young people to Dare to Dream
