Crumbs! Help us brew more types of beer!

Crumbs make beer using leftover bread from Chalk Hills Bakery in Reigate. We need support to make new brews with their Sourdough & Rye bread

We did it!

On 20th Oct 2017 we successfully raised £15,720 of £15,000 target with 199 supporters in 28 days

New stretch target

We’ll do something darker with the Rye. One idea we’ve looked into is combining the Rye with leftover coffee grounds from Chalk Hills coffee machine to make a delicious seasonal coffee porter!  Perfect for Christmas by a roaring fire!

Hello, Potential Crumbs Supporters!

Crumbs Brewing is on a mission to create unique beers using leftover artisan loaves from Chalk Hills Bakery in Reigate. As well as doing our bit for the growing problem of food waste in society we’re also passionate about making great beers that do justice to such a delicious ingredient.

We’re a small local business that is proud of being small and local. Set up by three Reigate residents that are raising families in the town, we wanted to do something that did some good in the community and contributed to the exciting food culture in our local area.

Since our journey started in late 2016, we’ve not only developed and rediscovered some innovative ways to successfully brew beer using leftover bread but also had our first taste of the fun and challenge of creating a new local venture.

Thanks to our fans, amazing customers and the support from local businesses, our first ever brew, Crumbs Amber Lager, sold out in a couple of months and has had great feedback. We’ve even made the finals of the Surrey Life Food & Drink Awards in the Innovation category.

We’re already on to the second brew of our Amber Lager but we don't want to stop there.  Our lovely friends at Chalk Hills Bakery have loads of other delicious types of bread we’d like to get our hands on, the Sourdough and Rye being top of the list.

That's where your support comes in!

Unfortunately, being small and being local means we’re not made of money. The success of our first brew allows us to re-invest in more Amber but developing and brewing two new styles needs new investment. After a quick look down the back of the sofa, all we found were crumbs – which is a little ironic!

We’ve been blown away by the level of support we’ve had from the community and businesses both in Reigate and the surrounding areas so we’re turning to you, a lovely (and very good looking may I say) crowdfunding community, to help keep our venture growing.

The money raised by this effort will go into developing and brewing two new styles of beer. We’ve actually been asking our followers what styles they’d like us to make – the winners were:

  • Sourdough Pale – we’re thinking a light easy drinking ale in a “New England” IPA style, letting the zestiness of the sourdough come through along with late hops.
  • Rye Ruby – something dark, malty and mysterious. Chalk Hills Rye bread is beautifully flavoured with Caraway Seed that gives an amazing taste and aroma to the loaf and as a result, will make a truly memorable beer!

If we get into the heady heights of over-funding we’ll also set about doing something even darker with the Rye. One idea we’ve looked into is combining the Rye with leftover coffee grounds from Chalk Hills coffee machine to make a delicious seasonal coffee porter!  Perfect for Christmas by a roaring fire!

What’s in it for you?

As well as the warm fuzzy feeling of helping a small local business make more local beers that reduce food waste, in return for your pledges, we are offering a range of great rewards.

  • You’ll be the first to get your hands on our new beers as soon as we make them.
  • You’ll get some great one-off offers of beer and exclusive goodies, including delivery to your door in the UK (even personally delivered by one of the Crumbs team for those living in and around Reigate, Surrey!)
  • Some will get the chance to come and have a party with us in Reigate to celebrate the new brews (us being allowed by our Crumbs Counter Elaine to give away free beer is truly a one-off money can’t buy event so make sure you get involved!)
  • We’ll also acknowledge each and every Crumby Contributor on our wall of Crumby Crowd Heroes.

So, thank you for even considering supporting us.  We only started this journey in December 2016 and we’ve already had a blast and learned so much. With your help, we can hopefully continue that journey of discovery and carry on making beers that taste great and do good!
