Raising awareness of Parental Depression and its impact & raising a generation for whom the social stigma of mental illness does not exist.
About the project
Rob and Jane are the founders of Create Me Happy, a constituted, volunteer led group raising awareness of the isolated child within parental depression.
We like to provide Lego(R) clubs in areas where there is a high population of mental illness sufferers, we recognise that parental mental ill health impacts the whole family. Partners need support and children need opportunities to thrive.
Our clubs encourage peer support and an opportunity for famililes to learn, play and grow together.
We also like to encourage the children to talk about their emotions, learn tools to help them through negative feelings and gain confidence within our settings. Our goal is to help raise a generation for whm the social stigma of a mental illness does not exist, to raise a generation who do not have to wear the exhaustinng mask and who can become more emotionally confident.
We are not trained experts and we do not give professional adviced but through the various mental health teams that we volunteer with we can signpost to other charities and agencies. We can provide links to those services and can sometimes facilitate those first meetings where appropriate and achievable.
We have been able to self sustain for a year now with generous community donations of time, venues and resources. This year, however, we need to purchase our own Public Liability insurance to continue and would like to purchase some larger Lego Duplo(R) for our younger members of the clubs. Any leftover monies may be used to purcase a second hand projector for our popular cinima-picnic events. xx
Our group is in no way affiliated with Lego(R), LEGOLAND or the Merlins Entertainment group. LEGO, DUPLO and LEGOLAND are trademarks of the Lego Group.
