We, in2venture a registered charity (England and Wales Registered Charity No. 518891; Scottish Charity No. SC045485), have recently aquired the lease of Craikhope Outdoor Centre near Hawick.
The centre has existed since 1976 when Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh visited the site and officially opened it, but has been abandoned for almost 3 years, and as you can imagine a lot of the grounds around it are now overgrown; the inside of the Centre itself needs a new lick of paint; new furniture, sofas, tables, beds (the Centre can hold 36 individuals) and such; new kitchen equipment, a stove, pans, plates, cutlery and such like; a new generator and fuel tank (due to its location there are no nearby electricity or phone lines); a new shed so that we can store all of the equipment that we have in a dry and cool place; a new archery range and we also hope to be able to build a climbing wall and an abseil tower.
The Centre was a very popular place in the past with scouts, boys brigades, schools and other groups and individuals and we have found that out since we took on the lease and started posting updates on social media, it seems that people still want to use the centre for all kinds of outdoor activities (camping, climbing, archery, walking, cycling, kayaking and canoeing, etc).
We already have had a lot of interest and people are wanting to book for stays in 2018, but we need funds to help us get to where we need to be in order to allow the Centre to host people and provide the activities required by all, we therefore ask you to help us reach our goal towards turning Craikhope Outdoor Centre into the best outdoor centre it can be once again.
