Crag & Tail – Scottish Dry Gin
We’re passionate about Scottish spirits and in particular, Scottish gin. We love how the market is growing and there’s new and exciting products being introduced by individuals and groups that in the past would not necessarily have had the chance to do so.
It’s a bit of a glass half full, half empty scenario, people see the market as becoming saturated, we see it as world of opportunity and excitement with everyone having something extra to add to a growing industry.
Gin in the UK
If you’re reading this you probably don’t need to be told the success and popularity of gin in the UK today but we’ll touch on it anyway!
Gin sales in the UK topped £1bn for the first time in 2016, as younger drinkers supplement their taste for vodka with a double shot from a new generation of artisanal distilleries.
A survey by the consumer trends agency Mintel found that despite its continuing reputation as a drink for the over-40s suburban couple, younger consumers are now the most likely to drink gin.
More than two in five (42%) Brits aged 18 to 34 have drunk gin in the past 12 months, compared with 27% of over-45s. (The Guardian)
If you’re wondering the relevance of these stats, it is basically to demonstrate the shift in demand from older to the younger generation. We are part of this generation and strongly feel we can contribute positively to the market and satisfy the demand for the younger generation but also give the more ‘seasoned’ gin drinkers more of what they want.
Crag & Tail Gin
Our passion of Scottish spirits stems from working in the industry and seeing the gradual changes towards different types of spirits and drinks.
We are constantly speaking to producers claiming to have some sort of unique story, that’s not us, we just want to create an excellent gin and use our passion and experience to bring it to the masses!
Our research and experimentation in the development of Crag & Tail has been going for the last 10 months. In that time we have created a recipe, an ethos, a distribution network and most importantly a firm plan of what’s good and well, whats not.
Crag & Tail will include a selection of botanicals from Scotland and beyond to create an accessible gin for everyone to enjoy (we would like to tell you exactly what they are beacuse they are pretty interesting but we want to keep a little mysterious!).
There will initially be a 70cl dry style gin with a other variants being introduced in 2018.
Everything is nearly ready to go however we just need that final financial push to create the first batch and bring Crag & Tail to market.
We want to introduce a gin that gives people what they want, great drinks, lots of fun and plenty social interaction! No thrills, just a great gin.
We feel as a Scottish producer and company we need to give back to the country we work in. It is extremely important to us to not only have fun in our work but realise not everyone has the opportunity to be in the same position. Crag & Tail will work with charities and communities throughout Scotland through events, voluntary work, jobs and giving a percentage of the annual profits to charities of consumer choosing. £25 – 10% off website (including selection of other Scottish spirits), website mention and handwritten card.
£50 – Bottle from the first batch of Crag & Tail. Keep it or drink it, either way you’ll be the first to have it! Name on supporters page.
£100 – One bottle from the first batch, one bottle in 2018, invite to secret launch party (no details because…it’s a secret), name on supporters page.
£500 – Four bottles per year for 3 years including one from first batch and any other variants introduced, invite to secret launch party, 10% off website, name on supporters page.
