Coley Park Community Association is a charity organisation who operate for the Coley Park community which directly has in excess of 3400 residential premises in the catchment area. We operate the Coley Park Community Centre with the aid of core funding from Reading Borough council which allows us to employ a part time admin officer. It also aid us with the upkeep of the centre and to put on a limited number of community events. RBC have announced that core funding is being reduce this year by 1/3, and again in the following 2 years. This makes it increasingly difficult to hold long standing community events. Some of our previous events have included Christmas & Halloween parties to bigger summer fun days and our flagship event Bonfire & Fireworks.
We are looking to the community to help us continue to hold our flagship Bonfire & Fireworks event this year, planned to be on Saturday 5th November 2016. This event is a local favourite with all parts of the local community and further afield. We are currently the only FREE TO ATTEND fire work display which still has a traditional bonfire. Last year we estimate almost 1500 people attended our event. Our aim is to build the event making it bigger and better every year but the financial aspect is our biggest stumbling block. Due to the nature of the event Health & Safety is our number one priority and ensuring we have adequate safety barriers in place and lighting (as it is an evening event).
