A BIG BAD WOLF COULD HUFF AND PUFF AND BLOW COUNTESS WEAR VILLAGE HALL DOWN!! The hall was built in 1922 by men returning from the WW1, each winter we suffer a leaking roof and windows, burst pipes and visits to spend a penny in outside loos are avoided at all costs! Despite these problems the hall is in daily use but soon it will be condemed as it does not reach current regulation for a community buildings.
Community halls play a vital role in creating successful communities. These days it’s too easy for people to jump into their cars and drive to work or to the shops, and that can mean that they never actually get to meet or engage with their neighbours. The result can be a fragmented society where nobody seems to recognise those who might be feeling isolated, and that includes every section of the population – the elderly, the lonely, young parents, people with health issues, or just someone going through a difficult time.
Alongside the traditional role of community buildings the hall hosts a massive range of Adult Education Classes which are no longer run by colleges and schools, students enrol from the local community, wider city area and rural communities. We have raised £260,000 but need to raise a further £90,000 by spring 2016, we are hoping that £50,000 will be from local fundraising and Crowd Funding.
