The Cotswold Wool Company is a new start up that originated when the owner, who lives in the Cotswolds, could not find any wool spun from Cotswold fleece, with which to knit. The Cotswolds have a long history for wool production and in a similar vein to the regeneration of wool industries in other areas, The Cotswold Wool company would like to kickstart a similar resurgence.
The company aims to source and purchase fleece from the now rare Cotswold Lion breed of sheep from local farmers, giving them a fair price for their fleece. Once purchased the fleece will be sent to the Natural Fibre Company to be spun into luxury knitting and crochet yarn.
To do this we require the money to purchase enough fleece to be spun and for the mill fees. We also require storage, marketing and packaging costs so that we can start selling the yarn as soon as it has been spun.
As an aside, we would like to start a social enterprise part of the business where we would train a group of house bound people to hand knit and then we would pay this group of knitters to make beautiful items for the home, made in their own home, thus giving them a dignified way to support themselves doing something they love. After suffering from an anxiety disorder for years, this part of the business is extremely important to The Cotswold Wool Company who wish to run workshops to train local people.
We would like to supply those who pledge with one ball of yarn when produced as a reward for supporting our company in our efforts. We look forward to sending out our first production run!
