New stretch target
What can I say. We hit our target very quickly, a massive thank you to everybody who has donated so far.
I have been ambitious with our stretch target, as we are approaching winter and refugees are going to need extra food and fuel through the cold season. Please share this appeal.
Cornish people have a long history of helping those less fortunate than themselves, and in Wadebridge we have been collecting aid from all over Cornwall. This will be delivered to people escaping to France, who have lost everything, fleeing wars that have destroyed homes and lives. Donations include firewood, toiletries, tents, sleeping bags, blankets and winter coats. Local and national businesses have chipped in with help, giving time and resources to make it easier for us to carry on our work. People have given up their free time collecting, driving, sorting, boxing and labelling things that we have been given, and it has been hard work, but ultimately it will go to people who need it most. If this goes some way to making refugees lives more bearable, then it is a start. The thought of displaced people living on the streets, as winter approaches, makes me feel that there is more we can do.
This is why I am starting a collection, as when we drive to France in October to deliver the aid, to have cash available to buy food and necessities for refugees, would make the trip even more worthwhile. If you could spare a few pounds, it will make a difference to somebody who is hungry, cold and homeless.
