We aim to set up the Community Gym for young people in Nottingham, particularly for those who may be vulnerable or at risk to be involved in criminal groups and illegal activities.We currently use various communal venues in Nottingham because we do not have our own dedicated space which would enable us to offer more holistic approach to supporting young people. The community gym, that we are dreaming of would enable Nottingham School of Boxing to expand services and offer much wider support to young people in their transition into adulthood. We will be able to reach many more young people in need, such as young offenders, young care leavers as well as any other young person who is at risk. The School has been set up by Marcellus Baz, the winner of BBC Unusung Hero Award 2016. Marcellus is a former gang member who turned his life around and use boxing and other sports as an engagement tool to address some of the personal barriers young vulenrable people face being it drugs, homelessnes, criminal record, lack of skills and qualifications or any other problem. Marcellus has just been awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) for his humanitarian work and is well respected by young people, police and schools as well as business community. Nottingham School of Boxing is proud of its patrons, the legendary ice-skaters Torwill and Dean and the support recieved from a number of boxing legends such as Frank Bruno who recognised the importance of what Marcellus Baz and his team are doing. We hope to raise enough funds to achieve our dream and open a gym that would be designed by young people for young people. Please give us your support!
