Anna has been awarded a place at the Royal College of Music, London to study opera at master's level. Anna is asking for donations to fund this master's degree. It is an incredible opportunity for Anna but comes with high cost implications. Any donations will be put towards her tuition fees which will include weekly one-on-one lessons with British Soprano, Amanda Roocroft, weekly one-on-one coaching lessons, weekly repertoire classes, weekly performance classes, language surgeries, opportunities to perform with leading orchestras and conductors, masterclasses with guest artists like Sarah Connolly, Opera Scenes performed in the Britten Theatre and many more incredibly valuable opportunities and tuition.
Anna is a classically trained mezzo soprano originally from the Lake District. Anna recently graduated from the Royal Northern College of Music with a first class degree in Music Performance studying with world renowned soprano, Mary Plazas. Anna joined the cast as a soloist and ensemble member of Thursford Christmas Spectacular this winter.
Whilst studying at the Royal Northern College of Music, Anna performed as part of RNCM's Opera Excerpts. These roles included Ramiro in Mozart’s La Finta Giardinera, Louise in La Vie Parisienne, Hansel in Hansel and Gretel, Louise in Il Matrimonio Segreto and Dorabella in Cosi fan Tutti. The Head of Opera claimed Anna performed the role of Hansel with "Outstanding technical command and use of technique in the service of the interpretation of character, text and music. Entirely formed with an excellent, strong, performance personality; professional artist.”
Anna was also an ensemble member and soloist in RNCM’s production of Paradise Moscow by Shostakovich. Anna also performed as a soloist in RNCM’s Day of Song: Caberet! This included songs by Kurt Weill, RNCM Composer Ben Parry and John Kander’s Chicago. As part of RNCM’s Chamber Music festival she also performed Mozart’s Coronation Mass as a soloist with RNCM’s Chamber Choir and Orchestra and Janacek’s The Diary of One Who Disappeared.
Anna is also an experienced professional dancer which has led way to extra opportunities as performing as a solo dancer within Sondheim’s Company, Shotakovicks’s Paradise Moscow, Cole Porter’s Kiss me Kate and Frank Loesser’s Guys and Dolls. Most recently, Anna performed the solo dancer role of Anna II alongside singer/actress Jessie Buckley in Kurt Weill’s The Seven Deadly Sins. This was performed with the Halle Orchestra led by Sir Mark Elder at the Bridgewater Hall.
Robert Beale from Manchester Evening News claimed “Anna Cooper (studying opera at the RNCM) gave a terrific performance as the dancer alter ego, Anna II.” And Rohan Shotton from Bach track claimed “Anna Cooper danced with great elegance and controlled energy even in the grittiest corners.”
Anna will be joining the cast of the National Gilbert and Sullivan Opera Company for their UK Tour this summer and launches her new Album Love & Longing this summer before she begins her Master's in London.
