The Spa Valley Railway is celebrating its 20th birthday in 2017 after commencing operations over the line to Groombridge back in August 1997. As part of this and to meet public demand at our ever popular diesel events we want to bring in a very popular class of heritage diesel known as a Class 37. These very impressive 1750hp machines can still be seen on the mainline railway network of the UK and are hugely popular with railway enthusiasts, some travelling many hundreds of miles to see them in action. We had a Class 37 resident with us previously however this was sold by its private owner in 2015 and has since departed us, the photo associated with this crowd funding is of the previous Class 37 and the one we wish to bring in is the same shape just a different colour!

We are dependent on road access to our site at Tunbridge Wells West and a Class 37 therefore has to travel by road on a lorry to get to us, with the locomotive weighing in excess of 100t this puts a considerable cost on the move. We are therefore aiming to raise £10,000 to cover the move of the locomotive one way to our site at Tunbridge Wells West.

Once at the Spa Valley Railway the locomotive would be used at our three diesel events, on ordinary passenger train services and also on public driving experience trains.

Our railway depends on these events to survive; we are a not for profit organisation with all money made being ploughed back into the supporting charity. It is essential we continue to run and develop our events to keep our visitor numbers growing and interest with the railway community, help our railway to continue to grow!
