My daughter underwent a procedure called a VDRO which is performed by cutting through the upper end of the thigh bone (femur). The VDRO is designed to tip the ball of the femur into the hip socket. We may also correct turning in of the femur at the same time.
The surgeon also lengthened the muscles in her hips by splitting them in her groin. Then carried out extensive work on the right hip joint socket.
Then everything is stabilised by plates and screws encased in a Spica cast for a six week period.
The surgeon and his team were fantastic but when we were due to go home we were told they didn't have enough specialist wheelchairs available and we were given a make do and mend Wheelchair that did compromise my daughters recovery.
I don't want this to happen to other children so I would like to try and raise some money to purchase two Chunc Spica Wheelchairs for Bristol Royal Children's Hospital.
To put this into perspective this operation will extend my daughters life and she won't be in pain all of the time and maybe she may learn to walk. These chairs are the best on the market and will aid recuperation and recovery allowing children to access school and the community they live in. Please support!
