Taking older people out for an evening of Christmas shopping; to buy gifts, see the festive lights and enjoy a cup of tea and cake.

For the last 20 or so years Aylesbury Youth Action has been taking local elderly, isolated and housebound people out into Aylesbury Town for a Christmas shopping experience that is totally unique to Aylesbury!  Transport needs are taken care of, wheelchair or walking aid hire is arranged for free with our partners Shopmobility at Aylesbury Vale District Council, and trained and supportive young volunteers are provided to accompany the shoppers around the town as they buy gifts for their friends and family, see the Christmas lights, and enjoy a cup of tea and cake with friends new and old (usually those who they met on the previous year's trip).  For some of our shoppers it is the only time they come into Aylesbury, and for others a trip with us can be their only chance to see the Christmas lights.  For all of them, it offers a unique opportunity to spend the evening with kind and caring teenagers from their community, and enjoy time with other people of all ages.

The entire event costs us £2000 to run, which provides the unique shopping experience for 20-30 shoppers, supported by about 50 young volunteers.  The costs include staffing on the event as well as volunteer training and behind the scenes preparations such as identifying a shopper's needs and arranging appropriate transport, as well as paying for their transport (including that of a carer where required), providing free refreshments for our volunteers and discounted refreshments for our shoppers, and organising a free 'raffle' where all our guests win a prize (but they never seem to notice!).

Please support us, and help us make this event possible for another year!
