As part of Made In Lewisham's "Celebrate Deptford" an arts and cultural heritage project due to happen this Autumn, we're supporting the Vietnamese Community as they invite you to join in their celebration of the annual Moon Festival.
This invitation is important to them because it will give them a chance to share their culture (particularly with those who might not know much about them) and to mark their place in the heritage of Deptford. They are also keen that it will provide an opportunity for everyone from every background and culture to come together, celebrate and have fun!
Known traditionally as the "happiest day for children", this much loved festival is a highlight of the Vietnamese calender and you'll get the chance to join in the festivities, including sampling some "moon cakes" and watching a colourful lion dance. As well as this, there will also be creative workshops, activities and performances that will allow you to immerse yourself in the heritage of this vibrant and important community.
As a community project, it's important to us that we are transparent about what we do. We thought carefully and did some research about what we needed to raise to make this event great, whilst keeping the budget as trim as possible.
This is what we'll spend the money raised on:
