We are a married couple in our thirties living in South West London with our three incredibly noisy children. My husband works in the city and I teach antenatal classes to local couples from our home. Just like you, the suffering of the refugees has affected us very deeply. Living in our cosy house, sleeping in our warm beds and enjoying our happy lives every day, we are constantly aware just how much we take for granted. We decided that we had to do something to help. Before Christmas I was able to collect a huge amount of baby blankets and sleeping bags thanks to the generosity of our amazing family, gorgeous friends (and wonderful strangers), and send them to Lesbos in Greece, where they were wrapped around many cold babies and small children who had fled from their homes in wartorn Syria. Now, with the situation worsening, and with the temperatures dropping, we are taking action again. This time for those suffering so much in Calais. We have collected 100 sleeping bags (in under 48 hours!) thanks again to the huge generosity and loving actions of so many. We are going to squash them all into our (thankfully quite large) car, and drive them all to the Calais Jungle in four weeks time. Once we have delivered and distributed these high quality and incredibly warm and cosy items to those so desperately in need, we will go the Calais Kitchens to see the amazing Amelia and Melissa who are volunteering there full time. They will tell us what they need most of all on that day, and we will take their shopping list and their cash and carry card and drive our empty car to the local Metro Cash and Carry where will we buy as much food as we can with the money raised from this Crowdfunder campaign, and deliver it all back to the jungle. We will do as many runs back and forth as the money will allow. Any left over money will be given to the kitchens to spend as needed once we have gone back home to our children. PLEASE help us raise as much as possible to help those suffering so badly.
