Many charitable organisations operating in Calais saw a surge in donations following the tragic images of Aylan Kurdi, a Syrian child who drowned off the coast of Turkey. As a result charities are struggling to cope with the quantity of donations, with these vital supplies failing to reach those in need. Unfortunately we are not in a position to donate money to the cause, however we are able to offer our time to sort, distribute and support those living in ‘The Jungle’ before the weather begins to worsen. So please help us get to Calais to offer valuable support for the humanitarian crisis!

We aim to raise £400 to cover our travel and accommodation costs for the three of us.There is a great need to provide transport for volunteers and distribution of donations from the warehouse to the campsite. Therefore one of us will be driving to the site on the 19th of October and will be joined by the rest of the team on the 24th. Our work will mainly involve sorting, processing and distributing supplies stored in the Calaid warehouse while also providing psychological first aid to some of the 4000 refugees living in the camp. We will also take out translated information booklets on common mental health problems such as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Panic disorder and Depression in an attempt to provide information and psych-education to individuals who are suffering from psychological distress.

We are all motivated individuals from different backgrounds and with a range of extensive experience including; working for mental health services and non-profit organisations. With these qualities combined we are keen to make a difference. We really hope you can help us achieve our target so we can continue to support and distribute aid. The more we are able to raise the more time we are able to give, and we hope that we will be able to return to Calais to provide continuity to the work established from this trip.
