Byrne Avenue Baths, Rock Ferry, Wirral, is a beautiful Grade II listed building, originally built in 1933 with two swimming pools and Ladies and Gents Slipper Baths. One set of the Slipper Baths is still in tact. What's a Slipper Bath? It consists of 8 individual cubicles each with a full size bath. People use to hire a bath for an hour - they were given a towel and as much hot water as they wanted but had to take their own bubble bath!
Unfortunately this beauty has been closed for several years.
The roof is leaking, the windows are broken and the pigeons have moved in. But not for long! Byrne Avenue Trust has taken over the lease of the building from Wirral Council, and now we start the hard work of restoring the Baths and getting them open again. This project will start that work, beginning with plugging the leaks in the roof, fixing the windows and serving an eviction notice on those pigeons. There will also be a big clean up to get it fit for the great work ahead. The Council are giving us some money to do the most urgent work, but it is not enough to get even our first stage completed. The rest we need to raise ourselves.
That's where you come in. This campaign is your way to show your support for this beautiful building. Please donate so that we can get this work started.
If you are tax payer, please make sure you compete the Gift Aid box. That gives us another 25% on top of your donation - for free! So a donation of £20 would be worth £25, £50 would be worth £62.50, etc.
We understand that not everybody can afford to give large amounts to the campaign. If you can afford to pledge please do so. If you can't then you can help in other ways. Please tell everyone you know and spread the word. We are going to need businesses to donate goods and services, and a team of volunteers to work with us. If you can help with either of these, email [email protected] to get in touch.
"The Baths is amazing. I definitely want to be involved" - MP, potential volunteer.
So many people who grew up on Wirral hear the words "Byrne Ave" and tell us about how they learnt to swim there, played football, jumped off the balcony into the pool. If you are one of those people for whom Byrne Ave created great memories, then please support this project so that the next generations can start making memories too. And so that you can make some more!
Lets get this party started.
