Accessible paddle sport in Sussex

Providing accessible kayaking equipment to the community, a range of equipment is required to fill a demand locally and regionally.

We did it!

On 28th Dec 2016 we successfully raised £105 with 6 supporters in 56 days

Accessible and easy to use kayaking equipment is vital for provision of paddlesport for all abilities, We are looking to fund a fleet of sit on top kayaks to be used by schools and youth groups.

Buzz Active is a Local Authority owned and run Activity centre based in two locations in East Sussex. One near Eastbourne and one near Seaford on the River Cuckmere. We are a community activity centre run as a not for profit organisation relying on funding and donations for new and replacement kit.

We provide activities for the whole community, specialising in activities for schools, youth groups and the local community including SEN (special educational needs) schools. Our Cuckmere centre is where we focus on kayak, canoe, improvised rafting and paddleboard activities, as well as orienteering in the Forest adjacent to the centre and nature walks in the Cuckmere valley.

We cater for a number of SEN schools and organisations. The participants from these groups require equipment which will make thier paddling experience accessible and safe, many not being able to use a traditional kayak for reasons of confidence, mobility or cognitive ability due to a range of needs. All kinds of people who are not confident enough to use traditional kayaks love using a sit on top kayak.

We work closely with a local paddlsport outlet Brighton Canoes, and they have provided us with a quote which includes a generous discount for the products we need for this project, even pledging to donate a craft free of charge if we meet a target of £1500 ( that's 6 boats!) .
