Business Boxing vs Brain Injuries

I'm entering the ring at the tender age of 64 to raise money for a specialist clinic in Warsaw who treat severely brain injured children

Dear Family, Friends, Colleagues and Business Associates

At a recent Awards Event, I was asked to take part in a White Collar Boxing Gala at the National Stadium in Warsaw on 22nd of April.  By chance, I was sitting next to Paula Stamm, the granddaughter of Poland’s greatest ever boxing trainer and daughter of a former Polish Heavyweight Boxing Champion.  Despite her strong advice against such an adventure, I accepted.

The donations being collected are going through the “Akogo” Foundation for the “Budzik” Clinic which is very worthwhile and quite appropriate. “Budzik”, best translated as “Wake Up”, is a very well established Warsaw Clinic which cares for children with severe brain injuries who need to be nursed back to full health. They possess a purpose built hospital and we are collecting for some highly specialized equipment and an expert to train the staff in its use. I particularly identify with the cause as my eldest son was unconscious for 5 days, after a mugging incident, before a long road to full recovery. His mother and I well understand the difficult and anxious time this represents in a family.

Since accepting the challenge I am training 15 hours a week. Road running, overall strength and fitness work at the amazing CityFit gym in the Spectrum Building, in Warsaw and boxing training with Sebastian Skrzecz, who is the trainer for the whole event.  I am not sure how much total training everyone else is doing but I do know that I will probably be giving away 20, or 25 years in age, at least, to my eventual opponent.  I have never boxed before and will be stepping into the ring for the first time at the age of 64. I hope, at least, to be able to protect myself and deliver a creditable performance.  Boxing, I have learned, is a very challenging and technically demanding sport, extremely difficult to master in a few short weeks.  I wish all my potential adversaries the best of luck.

If you feel this is a worthwhile cause, please sponsor me through the attached application. I would also like to think some of you may wish to attend the event whether as supporters or those curious to witness my demise.
