Build India: the challenge where 29 people from around the world will take to the skies to set off on their challenge of a lifetime.
A challenge that will see them getting ‘hands-on’ and sweating in the mid-day sun of India.
These willing people will be helping to build the Kodathur Village Rehabilitation Centre which will change the lives of children in the rural village of Pondicherry forever.
Here's a little more about the challenge:
The centre which is being constructed will be the first village centre for children with special needs and is expected to provide support to over 100 children. It will be run by qualified professionals and will ensure a new era of quality care and improved living for children with disabilities and their families. It will have facilities for physiotherapy, solar powered hydrotherapy, speech therapy, other activities for daily living, a kitchen and dining hall and outdoor play equipment which is accessible for the disabled.
Children with disabilities are amongst the most marginalized sections of society in India. While in the last decade and a half, there has been a growing awareness and significant achievements, a large number of physically and mentally challenged children, particularly in rural villages, still live in alienation and isolation. Only 3 out of every 10 children with a disability in Pondicherry have access to rehabilitation services, and 50% of these children eat only one meal a day.
This is going to be a demanding and emotional experience for all the challengers involved, it will teach them a lot about themselves and their capacity to go beyond their usual comfort zone. They will need enthusiasm, motivation and hard work to help make a difference and most vitally they will need your support, so let us hear you...
