A local charity (Edge Church) have been granted a lease by Tyne and Wear Building Preservation Trust (a non profit organisation based in Newcastle) to use the former Buddle Arts centre as their new home and raise funds to restore the Grade 2 listed building to full public use . However, the once iconic and historic building (it was once the stomping ground and recording studio for Sting) has fallen into disrepair after many years of standing empty and recent vandelism. Our aim is to use the building as a Community Hub and serve the surrounding areas in a variety of ways including clubs and activities for all ages, providing a trusting base for outreach and councilling to the people of Wallsend and surrounding areas in North Tyneside. Whilst not forgetting about the history of the building and its prominance in the area. But first we need to make the whole of the North Wing and Central areas of the building safe and inhabitable for the community to access. We anticipate the full renovation of the building to take up to 5 years but aim for the roof repairs to be completed within 12-18 months to prevent further damage and deterioration to the building.
