The Brookside Theatre is a much-loved venue, presenting quality theatre and promoting culture and arts throughout Romford and the London Borough of Havering and attracting audiences from far and wide.
We are crowdfunding to install 'raked' theatre-style seating which will not only allow us to accommodate larger audiences more comfortably, but will mean that the young and no-longer-young, the small and not-so-small will have a clearer view of the stage. Once installed we plan to present family / children's entertainment which we are currently unable to do.
ABOUT THE BROOKSIDE THEATRE
The Romford War Memorial Social Club opened in 1953 and was built to commemorate the service personnel and civilians from the borough who sadly lost their lives during WW2. Once an important part of community life, these historic buildings were closed in the late 1970's, boarded up and forgotten about for over 30 years.
With the love and support of the local community - not to mention the blood, sweat and tears of our volunteers - we were able to re-open the buildings as the Brookside Theatre - Romford's first and only live performing arts venue.
The theatre now regularly plays host to a wide variety of events; full scale plays and musicals, live music and comedy and even celebrity guest performances, with all events staged to raise money for the continued restoration and upkeep of the War Memorial buildings. However, while we have a fantastic reputation for first-class entertainment, we constantly receive criticism about our seating - and we want to get to the 'bottom' of the matter!
It will cost £35,000 to install tiered, theatre-style seating into the auditorium and increasing the capacity of the theatre would generate an extra 20+ potential ticket sales for every production. We are crowdfunding the first £10,000 - and are hopeful for more - and we will keep fundraising until we have raised the full amount required.
