Brionys World Championship Duathlon Challenge

To get to the World Duathlon Championships in Australia

Project aim

To get to the World Duathlon Championships in Australia

About the project

Briony's World Duathlon challenge, a Sports in Fulham, United Kingdom on Crowdfunder

My name is Briony Martin, I am a 25 year old full time physiotherapist working in the NHS. I have a passion for Duathlon (running 10k, cycling 40k then running another 5k) and I have recently been successful in national competitions.

Just like many other sport enthusiasts I have thoroughly enjoyed competing in sporting events from an early age. Having grown up in Cornwall by the sea I have always been encouraged to be active as a way of life. It is now become apparent that I want to take this further and I endeavour to reach my end goal of competing in the World Duathlon championships in Australia. Whilst understanding that a career is very important in life I have worked hard to secure my physiotherapy career in MSK physiotherapy.

In the summer of 2014 I decided to enter my first ever Duathlon competition where I came second at the Olympic Park, Stratford. I was then recommended to try for the GB age group Duathlon team. I trained hard daily and entered the competition at Oulton Park last October. It was my first big competition with over 300 entrants in my race; I won my age group, qualifying to represent Great Britain at the European Championships in Madrid in April 2015 and was also the third female overall.

I attended the Europeans in April this year and despite all the elements of torrential rain, hail and thunderstoms I won a Silver medal at my first international competition. I also qualifyed to represent GB at the World Duathlon championships in Adeleide, this being my biggest achievement to date.

However, despite all the excitement it has become very difficult to fund my participation at this advanced level as I am not a funded athlete. Race fees, gym membership, GB kit, Hotels and flights for the accommodation abroad together with bike transfer have become almost impossible to finance. I am therefore trying to put together a little fund to help go towards these costs so if even its a few pounds I would be eternally grateful..with a bit of funding my goal would be 100% achievable and who knows what may happen from there...
