The Community's Hub
You would have no doubt read in local and national press that many community libraries are closing to help ease the financial pressures on borough councils. Never ones to shy away from anything the community benefits from, we decided to put together a business plan to help ‘save’ our local community library – Beechcroft Library in Swindon, Wiltshire.
We were successful! Stratton St Margaret Parish Council will continue to run Beechcroft Library in Upper Stratton from early September 2017. Swindon Borough Council are backing us with our plan and have allocated funding to support us with the continuation of the library, which is great news!
Our plan is to make the library a ‘Community Hub’ for local residents, local business owners and community groups. A place to meet, a place to unwind or somewhere for you to reach out to the community.
Books and current resources
Swindon Borough Council have awarded us this opportunity to run the library on an annual service level agreement, we have a year to prove this can work, but of course we need to make it a place people want to go. We wish to purchase new books, resources and make it a fresh, comfortable place that everyone wants to be.
We have a year to turn it around and make it a success, we have a huge community backing with a team of volunteers, so the hard work is practically done. We just need to make it the success we imagine and with your support we know we can do it.
Thank you so much for your support.
Tracy Predeth, Clerk to the Parish and the whole of the Stratton St Margaret Parish Council.
