This fundraising page was originally set up to raise money for a roof for a rehabilitation centre for street kids from the slums of Kampala in Uganda on behalf of the NGO Branches of Life International.
I am Fiona Madden. I am from London, England and went to volunteer at the project in March 2017, however unfortunately events unfolded whilst I was out there and after my return to London showing me that I cannot trust this NGO as it is not doing completely as promised.
I was left with no choice but to organise a last minute trip back to Uganda to move five ex street kids (that I and another volunteer Maxime had provided funds for putting them in a house for three months and feeding them and providing for their needs etc) away from the hands of the NGO.
These five boys mean everything to me hence why I borrowed money from an amazing friend for this mission. They are smart, funny and so caring and grateful.
They have been through so much with most of them spending the majority of their lives living on the street and they cannot thank me enough for coming back for them. At one point i was told one of them had HIV and sent money for treatment. Thankfully he does not. They were also pressured to contact me continuously for money and when the three older ones refused to Cooperate fully with plans they were actually brought back to the slums where they begged to be taken back.
I am delighted to say that I have managed to secure them a house and they will be looked after by the Ugandan volunteer here that I trust who helped me get them away from trouble. I'm even more delighted to say that they will all start boarding school on 29th May and this was their biggest hope - to get back to school.
The target amount on this page is now irrelevant. The money raised will help pay for their school fees and supplies, as I cannot afford these myself. I will be setting up another fundraising page soon for on going support as well as a Facebook page. Internet in Uganda is slow so bear with me please!
The boys are Nasir - 12 and Shafik -14.
The three older boys are not entirely sure of their ages but we are thinking roughly 17,18 and 19. They are Umar (Amazon), Laban, and Masha P.
Please help me help these boys to excel and have the education and childhood that their society failed to give them.
Thanks for reading our profile and hope you can give us a little support. Any amount of money makes the difference.
Love and peace always,
