We are Branches of Life International, a Non-Profit Christian Organization started by Charles Kalunda, who was a street kid for five years in the surbubs of Kampala, Uganda. The mission is to establish a community based development project to foster and promote the welfare of people, especially street children, HIV/AIDS orphans, youth and the elderly, through provision of basic needs in life, such as housing, education, vocational training, nutrition and access to health care. He has been running this NGO by himself for the past 8 years, investing money from his own pocket and other individuals sponsors. He already bought land to build up the school and the volunteers house, with several rooms for the street kids rehab centre. We need now to build up the roof, which can be the most expensive part of building a house. The bunk beds and mattresses can be purchased easily after the roof, windows and doors get done.
I am Fiona Madden. I am from London, England and went to volunteer at the project in March 2017 and I have been so deeply shocked and hurt by seeing these innocent children in the streets because they have no where to go to feel safe, a lot of them suffering from ill health or on drugs. Therefore I have decided to help Charles, Branches of Life, and most importantly these children long into the future, even after my return to England.
