Your pledges have helped us smash our £20,000 target and the build is now well underway (and looking awesome!). Thank you! We're now offering new and even more exciting rewards for your continued support as we aim for £30,000 and we only have a few hours left!
These rewards include signed merchandise and your last chance to buy a christmas gifts before this campaign finishes on December 2nd 2016.
The extra funding will go towards harnesses, shoes and other equipment for any charity or community group to use free of charge. This will enable us to make climbing sessions more accessible to more non-profit youth and adult organisations.
We are still optimistic that we reach our ambitious target of opening before Christmas. We will keep you posted!
Over the past 18 Months, we've been working hard, having sleepless nights, and putting our blood, sweat, and tears (as well as all of our savings) into this project. We are not a start-up, but an established business looking to provide an expansion of what we know to be a successful and inclusive sport. We have aspirations to cast our net further afield and reach many more aspiring climbers. However, we feel we would be letting down hundreds of young climbers currently supported by us in Hampshire if we were not able to provide roped climbing any longer.
We just cannot allow this to happen, and that’s where we need your help. We need to raise an extra £20,000 to provide a roped climbing wall within the centre, so that we can continue to provide National Governing Body awards to children and youth groups, and GCSE PE to local schools.
The money you contribute will go towards building 15 roped climbing lines at 6.5m high, the same overall roped climbing space at the current centre due for closure. You will be helping to build an incredible centre that is perfect for everyone in the community.
The community is where our heart lies, we have ideas to include a fitness studio, a café, youth bouldering area and a community shop. This is all a part of the big dream to create a community space which is inclusive to everyone.
The current climbing wall at St Mary’s has been around since the dawn of time, but the council decided they could no longer run this roped climbing wall. Tim Miller bought the lease for the climbing wall and has continued to run it as a successful business. He has created a large community of climbers that rely on this space and they certainly don’t want to be left without one.
Now 8 years on, the wall has reached its maximum capacity and it’s time to move on to bigger, better, more awesome things. Tim and the team have taken on the mammoth task of starting from scratch, in an empty warehouse to build one of the best climbing facilities in the South.
We have invested time and money to make sure all resources in this project are kept local, from the coffee beans which are being supplied by a local coffee roaster (and loyal customer), to the cakes that will be supplied by a local baker. The furniture that has been bought from local charity shops and the 23 tons of plywood from a local timber merchant. All our skilled tradesmen are from the local area and through this project we would like to see everyone benefit from its success and that means you too!
We want you to become a part of the history of Boulder Shack, so we have put together some great rewards that we think you will want to invest in! In the build up to Christmas these rewards would not only make fantastic gifts, but we would love to see the centre open in time to hold our annual (free) Christmas party. All funds raised from this party go back to local youth groups to provide them with free climbing sessions; these are of great value to the local groups we currently support.
The Boulder Shack team are confident that with your help we can raise our final £20,000 target to provide the roped climbing. As soon as our doors are open, we would love to welcome you to come down, so you can see this incredible space and know that without you it would not have been a reality.
If you are unable to pledge, please help us by spreading the word & sharing this campaign with all your friends, family and colleagues. If you would like to be more involved, please get in touch and see how you can help in other ways.
Thank you and we hope to see you at Boulder Shack soon.
