I believe that books and literature are key to a child's development and future education. Due to circumstances beyond their control some children don't have access to books and this is something I'd like to help change.
Borderline Books is an organisation based in Gateshead. Their aim is to collect books and redistribute them to people in challenging situations. This includes children who have had to leave home because of domestic abuse or other difficult family situations, those who have become homeless and children of asylum applicants who are fleeing adverse situations in their own countries.
The books may be given at Christmas – or for birthdays or other special occasions. They will be distributed to local women's refuges, children's homes and organisations working with refugees and asylum applicants as well as in prisons to help build and maintain the relationship of offenders with their children by reading either during a visit or by recording stories and sending them to their children to listen to at home.
