I am currently working as a volunteer English teacher for SENA in Cali, Colombia. SENA is a vocational institution that provides free education. The Colombian government recently launched a nation-wide initiative to promote bilingualism and to increase the job opportunities of the Colombian people.
I would love to start a book club in order to encourage literacy, reading and discussion. I believe that reading has the power to open peoples minds to different cultures, possibilities and perspectives. Unfortunately, it can be a little difficult for students to have access to books as the average monthly wage in Colombia is COP$1,149, 270.73/ £313 and books can cost COP$45,000/£12.
Ideally, I would like to buy 8 copies of 3 different titles, which would add up to roughly COP$1,080,000/£295.
I humbly urge you to reach into your pockets and donate. If you can't donate, then please share and/or suggest some easy but enjoyable book titles.
