At the beginning of November, a collaboration with Propel by Deloitte, aiming to hunt out UK based businesses that have the ambition to, or are already exporting on an international scale, saw an offer of £5k up for grabs. Five different business ideas received £1k each, kicking this month’s competition off to an exciting start.
Following this fierce competition, the five finalists then went on to battle it out for an additional pledge of £1k from VOOM, which was received by the project that raised the most money from the Crowd during the first 72 hours of their crowdfunding campaign.
We’re pleased to announce that Love Coca are the winners!
The Winners Story: Love Cocoa
Love Cocoa is a British chocolate company, launched by James Cadbury – descendant of John Cadbury, of the Cadbury confectionery company. Their organic chocolate bars are handmade in Great Britain using the finest ingredients, sourced from their partner independent British producers such as Maldon Sea Salt. As well as being finalists of Virgin Foodpreneur 2017, Love Cocoa have also won a number of industry awards including Great Taste Awards and have been shortlisted for Great British Food Awards. They are now crowdfunding to expand their range of chocolate bars to bring some of their intriguing flavours to the truffle world – an endeavour that has been a long time in the making! The new product is almost ready to launch, but needs support from the Crowd for the final push.
We caught up with James, project owner behind Love Cocoa, to find out what the second win means for this chocolate lover’s dream project…
“A second 1k win from VOOM really bolsters our confidence here at Love Cocoa. Our brand has gone from strength to strength since we launched in July 2016 and it’s great to see an increasingly engaged audience continually backing us, allowing for more and more exciting chocolate products to be developed. This particular campaign saw us launch our long-awaited truffles for pre-order in 2018 and it was amazing to see the support everyone gave for our new product right from the start. With your help, our truffles can hopefully brighten the shelves of stores and supermarkets alike and add some panache to the realm of chocolate gifting across the UK and beyond. Thank you!”
