With the first signs of Spring appearing, we can’t help but dream of those warmer evenings with a refreshing G&T in hand. And what better way to kick off those summer vibes than jazzing up your regular gin tipple with Tinker Gin’s brand new violet flavour?
Since successfully crowdfunding for the launch of Tinker Gin back in December 2016, with the support of over 300 individuals helping to make it happen, it’s easy to say that crowdfunding has certainly transformed the distilling journey for Tinker. Always looking to satisfy the gin needs of their Tinker Tribe, the small batch, craft gin team behind the magic are now back and cruising through their second Crowdfunder campaign to bring their colourful new flavour, Tinker Violet, to the market.
Things got off to a flying start when Tinker were picked as one of the What’s Your Idea? winners back in February; a competition delivered in partnership with GoDaddy to offer an array of prizes to the most innovative and impactful ideas of 2018. Tinker took a winning spot in the Food + Drink category, delivered alongside CrowdCube. Want to be kept in the loop for any future competitions? Register your interest here.
We can’t decide if it’s the overwhelming support of the Crowd, or their dedication to making top quality gin, but personally, we don’t think that gin has ever tasted so good.
We caught up with the team at Tinker Gin to find out about the drive behind their vision and their top tips for crowdfunding success.
What is the mission behind Tinker Gin?
Launched in 2017, Tinker Gin was created with love by Jym and Marie Harris, founders of GinFestival.com – a dedicated team of gin fans set on bringing top-class craft gins, packed full of flavour, to as many people as possible!
Using years of industry knowledge, the mission behind Tinker Gin has always been to create the perfect, easy drinking G&T. And the result? A fresh, fruity flavour, less dry than traditional gins, that’s seriously drinkable! Our Tinker Tribe have found the Tinker Gin flavours of elderberry, citrus and a touch of sherbet so delicious that it’s the most popular brand at GinFestival.com! Now we’re looking to expand the Tinker Gin flavour range, starting with Tinker Gin Violet.
Why did you decide to crowdfund?
We crowdfunded for the first time to realise our dream and build a range that we know will be loved across the gin world. However, all of our free cash is being ploughed back into the company to allow us to keep up with production and grow. Therefore, another successful crowdfunding campaign will allow us to produce the new flavours that our fantastic community have been asking for, starting with Tinker Gin Violet. As with Tinker Gin, Tinker ‘Violet’ currently exists only as a handful of development samples and we want to roll out production and share it with you all. It’s an exceptionally tasty gin and we need help to get it made, plus confirmation that there’s support for it out there, and that’s where crowdfunding comes in as it does just that! We also think that it’s great news for the gin community when the Crowd supports small batch, craft gin brands and distilleries such as ours, as it keeps standards high and allows original and unique, limited edition flavours to be produced alongside the classics.
How is crowdfunding different from how you normally finance Tinker Gin?
We actually financed the original Tinker Gin with our first Crowdfunder campaign! It was so popular that a new strawberry flavour, Tinker Pink, was added to the range just 9 months after the initial launch on Crowdfunder.co.uk via pre-orders on the GinFestival.com website.
Have you found there to be any other benefits from crowdfunding aside from the money itself?
Crowdfunding has not only allowed us to give out some great rewards, but also welcome lots of new supporters to the Tinker Tribe! So far, we’ve had over 1,500 individuals support us on Crowdfunder and that’s very special. We knew that we had a fabulous, loyal gin community, but the support and feedback throughout both of our crowdfunding projects has completely bowled us over. The overwhelming support has been incredibly heartwarming and it’s been amazing to see all of the positive comments and feedback.
What would your top tips be for anyone else thinking about crowdfunding?
Go for it! The team at Crowdfunder are amazingly supportive. It is vital to follow their advice, offer rewards that your audience will love and plan your campaign in advance, with key messages for key dates planned in. Make sure you keep your supporters up-to-date too!
