Crowdfunder recognised for their community impact at Cornwall’s very first Edge Awards

In a celebration of Cornwall’s thriving digital sector, the very first Edge Awards, hosted by Cornwall Live, took place last week at Newquay Lighthouse Cinema.

In a bid to highlight the world-leading businesses that are being developed in the South West and their global impact, EDGE Awards 2017 (Excellence in Digital, Gadgetry and Entrepreneurialism) was the first ever major celebration of its kind to acknowledge the county’s thriving digital sector. The evening was presented by Jacqui Merrington, Editor of Cornwall Live, and her co-host, RoboThespian – the ultimate acting humanoid designed by Engineered Arts, who appeared to suffer from a little stage fright to begin with!

We were overwhelmed and immensely proud to be presented with the award for ‘Best Community/Social use of Digital’ by Tim Rumbelow, Business Development Manager at Cornwall Live.

Crowdfunder HQ is located in the heart of Newquay, and it’s from here (alongside our design studio in Bridport) that we pursue our drive to connect the projects that matter with the people who care. This is all achieved by working collaboratively with our match-funding partners and of course, the Crowd – an incredibly supportive and active network of individuals who pledge on the grassroots level projects that are activating solutions to significant problems faced by society.

In a recent interview, Rob Love, Founder of Crowdfunder, said, “The best way to explain this concept is to look at some of the great projects that we see coming through the Crowdfunder platform. For example, we have recently been working with Cycling Without Age through their development from a one-town one-man idea, intending to take elderly residents out on cycle rides on a uniquely designed tricycle, into a nation-wide initiative. As well as groups, we also support individuals such as Faye from Urban Studio, who crowdfunded to launch her fitness studio to support mental, emotional and physical well-being.”

Bottom line? It’s all about making ideas happen – ideas that might just change the world – and this Award stands as a wonderful testament from the place that it all started.

The EDGE Awards brought a broad range of digital expertise into the spotlight in the twelve different categories, including Best Game Developer through to Best Social Media Engagement Initiative. The far-reaching, positive impact that originates and grows from right here in the South West is truly incredible, and we are really excited to be a part of this.

Jacqui Merrington, Editor of Cornwall Live, said, “Cornwall has one of the fastest-growing tech sectors in the country and we wanted to celebrate that, shout about that and recognise the businesses that are putting Cornwall at the forefront of digital transformation. We want to promote the new Cornwall agenda which is seeing our economy expanding, high tech businesses flourishing and the development of new systems and technologies that have the potential to change the way we work, live and do business in Cornwall.”

Congratulations to everyone involved – we can’t wait to see what next year’s EDGE Awards bring!

We are kicking off 2018 with an unmissable opportunity, and we want to have you on board...
