New stretch target
Thank you for helping us get this far! If we reach our stretch goal, our publication will be able to stretch further and allow our work to effect more people.
We are a group of third year Graphic Design students from The University of the West of England, Bristol. We are hoping to raise funds to go towards our final year publication, as well as the event that will launch it.
About the project
We want to raise £500 to go towards our end of year publication, of which we aim to print 2000 copies. It represents our whole course with us and our fellow students getting involved in generating content through a series of workshops.
In previous years the publication has been very successful, earning an ISTD professional award in 2014.
The publication and website we are designing will respond to Wyndham Lewis’s Blast (1914). Blast was a short-lived literary magazine from the Vorticist movement which is celebrating it’s 101st anniversary this year. It’s scathing yet poetic approach to criticising society is sharp and witty, our publication will explore it’s contemporary cultural relevance.
In 2014 David Cameron’s barber received an MBE, heralding the role of the hairdresser, as Blast did 100 years before. Today we can follow and un-follow, like and unlike, choosing to read or react to anything we see and read in an instant. Lewis paved the way by blasting and blessing, we now live in a society where this is possible at the touch of a button.
Our publication will be addressing contemporary socio-political issues, focusing on key General Election topics; diversity, the public sector, community, healthcare and education.
We are the first generation of students to feel the effects of the tripled university fees. Now, weeks away from graduating we are about to be thrown into a period of economic instability with the General Election shifting the political landscape once again.
Your money will go towards the production costs of our publication and website, as well as its launch event at the begining of May (further information to follow).
