During July and August in 2015, for eleven and a half days, the very first "Ben and Sean's Excellent Adventure" began. Sean Holland ( then 46) and Lance "Benny" Goodman (then 56) rode their push bikes for a ruthless 1000 miles in a loop around northern France..
Initially they had intended to complete it in 10 days - mechanical failures and injuries pushed it back to 11 and a half days- however, this was still a huge achievement! With an average of 87 miles a day, climbing a total of 33,364 feet and a respectable average speed of 13 MPH, the smiles were broad. The sense of achievement palpable! Most important of all, of course, was the money raised for the Cornwall Air Ambulance. During the last adventure a book was penned and over 100,000 people were reached on social media.
2017 sees the return of the dynamic duo - this time in aid of the Samaritans. Since the last ride both Benny and Sean have lost friends to mental health issues. Sadly these two heartbreaking events are not isolated. There have been three other instances in the last ten years. Five people who felt they had a mountain to climb and decided they could no longer continue...
To raise awareness and much needed funding for the Samaritans the pair have hatched a new adventure.... They are going to cycle up a mountain for each of the friends lost - and cycle to each of the mountains in turn.
1500km - 12 days - 4 mountains 5 climbs! That is 76,000 Feet of climbing!!!
Riding their pushbikes from Chartres in France down towards the Alps the pair aim to take on the legendary climbs of the region - l'Alp d'Huez - Galibier - Izouard and Mont Ventoux (twice)
Welcome to the ride "4Five"
We are already well underway, with our Crowdfunder reaching 43% funded in a three day period. Nexpay, JC Motorcycles (Plymouth) and The Glas-Denbury Music and Arts Festival have helped us reach that all important tipping point. We are now looking for those last few businesses to help us fund this adventure in return for some amazing rewards. If you feel your business can help us get rolling please visit the crowdfunder so that we can start the money rolling in for Samaritans.
Your support will help us get to the start line, complete the ride and create a photographic archive for another book, the contents of which will be a mixture of prose, musings and poetry written en route.
In addition you will help us finance a mini documentary for release through social media around Christmas time! We have secured the talents of one of the South West's amazing photographers Guy Harris. This book will be something to treasure! We are currently interviewing documentary makers. Watch this space, or get in touch if you feel you are the right fit for this type of adventure!
Rewards include social media exposure, official sponsorship placement on kit and in the media produced. Alongside this you will experience joy of helping raise valuable funds for a vital service. We will reach in excess of 500,000 people with this challenge, through social media and post event engagement. Be a part of it and help us make a difference!
Thanks for your interest - why not check out our rewards and get involved!
