Our founder Michelle Partington launched Behind The Mask Foundation (BTMF) following her own personal experience with mental illness. She was diagnosed with complex PTSD and was discharged from the RAF after 20 years service.
As a foundation we provide free online counselling and peer support for all those struggling with their mental health. Help can be found by accessing the following website here. Waiting lists are so very long but people need our help now and we at Behind The Mask Foundation provide a free, confidential service to all who need it, online and from the comfort and safety of your own home.
At least 1 in 4 adults struggle with their mental health and this figure is more in children and young men. To help end the stigma we would like anyone who has struggled with a mental illness to please take a photo of yourself holding a piece of paper with the hashtag: #behindthemaskiam. All the photos will be put into our Foundation film along with a song written by Faye Baggley. This will then be embedded onto the website and pushed far and wide. If you would like to take part then please upload your selfie to our Facebook page here.
If you can, we would also like to ask if you could make a pledge however small. Your pledge would help pay for training, insurance, marketing and office rental. All these are important and none of it can happen without your good nature. All our peers and counsellors are volunteers who freely give up their time and expertise to help those in need. Your support can help us recruit more peers and counsellors and ensure we can provide the full training to support they require.
Let's all stand, hand in hand and support the project to end the stigma stopping people accessing the help they so need.
