To buy a Mac laptop & book a place on a graphic design course to start designing greeting cards, prints and other paper goods
About the project
I have always loved being creative, using technology and making people happy with little gifts. At college, the computers were pretty useless and it unfortunately put me off going down the graphic design career path. I live with the philosphy not to regret things in the past, afterall - I've had some great experiences in my visual merchandising and tutor roles the past 10 years. But I yearn for my true passion to come alive again. My biggest hurdle now is money. I need to buy a Mac laptop to be able to design, along with a couple of accessories such as a printer and electronic design pen for illustration. As I don't have formal training, I would also need to enrol on a part-time photoshop course to fully develop my current, natural creative skills. I hope to add calligraphy to that too :)
This will enable me to start my business from my home and grow it from there. Greeting cards and prints are becoming more popular again, logging onto social platforms such as Instagram, there are stationary designers with hundreds of thousands of followers and booming businesses so it's a good line of work to focus graphic design skills in. My angle is to blend it with postive thinking and wellbeing, using inspirational quotes to bring a slice of happiness, inspiration and wellbeing into people's lives. Taking inspiration from my Natural health training, living in the countryside after growing up in London, the coast/nature and healthy lifestyles. Featuring watercolours and beautiful typograhy. I'll fully utilse social media to build a community through blogging other platforms, it will be such an honour to insprire balance and wellbeing and create a place for people to discover a positive way of thinking.
By looking at entrepreneurs like 'Deliciously Ella' and her popularity, people are buying into the good life, Ella now has her own range of accessories featuring slogans such as 'peace, kale and yoga'.
I see these prints as art in customer's homes, in offices for motivation, as cards being sent as a sweet note, wedding stationary and other occasions. One of my first designs will be a 'happy little coconuts' typograhic print for a friend's child's room. The photos I have attached are examples from Pinterest inspiration board, not my work. I plan to be ever better :)
I believe in my capability and commercial vision, I just need a helping hand to start, now that being a grown up involves a mortgage and the like! This help, even a small amount per person, will enable me to get started sooner rather than a few more years down the line.
Not only will I be forever grateful, I will provide rewards for each contributer. I'm so happy I found out about Crowdfunder, what a fabulous example of community spirit in the age of the internet. Thank you.
